There's always plenty going on at TACSI but here's a quick overview of our major projects for 2011:
With the Bold Ideas, Better Lives Challenge we wanted to give every Australian the chance to turn their big idea for social change into big impact. So in 2010 we put our money (and our networks) where our mouth is and invested $1 million into the eight projects chosen by our panel of judges in the Bold Ideas Better Lives challenge. In 2011, we'll be supporting the projects as they work to build their projects and make some change in the world. Follow their journey on our website and blog!
TACSI's Radical Redesign team works in, with, and for local communities to co-design and prototype solutions to Australia's great social challenges using our 'Working Backwards' approach. Our interdisciplinary team brings together design, social science, community development and business to develop radical solutions that focus on thriving, not just on meeting basic needs. Solutions that are fundamentally about prompting change, not maintaining the status quo. Read more.
The Radical Redesign team are working with older people in Salisbury and Unley and the South Australian Department of Communities and Social Inclusion to improve outcomes for people who are caring and the people they care for. Read more.
We are working with families and the Australian Government Department of Human Services to co-design opportunities to improve outcomes for children starting school. Read more.
Working with our own team, and teams from government we are prototyping a cnew urriculum to equip teams with the behaviours, skills, and tools to to adopt the 'Working Backwards' approach to social problem solving. Read more.
Family by Family is the first 'solution' to come out of TACSI's Radical Redesign Team. TACSI supported the initial scoping, design, and prototyping, and will now incubate and help spread the model throughout Australia. Read more.
TACSI funds and supports a variety of social ventures and social entrepreneurs across Australia through our Bold Ideas, Better Lives Challenge. We are building on this experience to develop a methodology for venture support to enable us to select and support more social ventures, with an emphasis on supporting early stage, innovative ventures which have great potential to make social impact across Australia.
The Social Innovator Dialogues brings international thought leadership and expertise to Australia through a series of events. Including cutting edge thinkers and doers on innovation in public sector policy, social justice and sustainable design, the series addresses the big issues affecting decision makers across the public, private and third sector and encourages leaders in Australia to wrestle with the opportunities and challenges of innovation that are remaking the world as we know it.
Our Blue Sky Sessions provide an informal and interactive forum for people to come together in a spirit of collaborative inquiry to discuss some of the pressing challenges of our day and how we might go about tackling them. This is not a case of talking heads. We encourage people to participate, to be creative and to think big.
