Applicants filled in an application form and uploaded their 1-3 minute media clip - the 'pitch' for their idea (this was a movie, a song, a powerpoint presentation - you name it). We wanted to see innovative AND realistic ideas – to see that they'd thought about timelines, resources, monitoring & evaluation and risk assessment as well as vision.
258 applications were put forward for the Challenge in 2010 and we were amazed and impressed by the diversity, the inventiveness and the social conscience shared by all our applicants.
If you'd like to see the pitches (the 1-3 minute media files) put forward by all the applicants you can check them out on our TACSI Challenge Vimeo channel.
In Stage 2 of the Challenge our 12 shortlisted applicants worked towards producing a fully implementable project plan to present to our Judges with the aim of convincing them that their bold idea should be invested in. We sweetened the deal with expert advice and a little cash injection ($1000).
Our Judges, the Board of TACSI, have a broad range of experience and expertise that they bring to the table and in the judging of the Bold Ideas Better Lives Challenge they have been ably assisted by our Advisory Panel of Jan Owen (Social Ventures Australia), Mark Daniels (Social Traders Australia), Jason Glanville (National Centre for Indigenous Excellence) and our very own Brenton Caffin (CEO TACSI).

8 winners were announced at our Challenge Gala on November 3, 2010. You can check them out and here more about our next steps in Phase 2: Testing those bold ideas.
We'll also be working with our four commended projects (that were shortlisted but haven't received investment) to find other ways to get their projects off the ground.
