Shifting complex social problems requires innovation at many levels and across many systems and silos.  Over the past eight years we’ve developed approaches, method and tools that can be used individually or in combination to address significant levers for change. We’ve also employed and developed content knowledge and understanding of the challenges and opportunities for innovation in specific sectors and contexts.

Through our work and partnerships, our processes and perspective continue to evolve.

Innovation Levers

Building best practice

We find what works and how best to share it

Innovation nearly always exists in service systems, it’s just often hiding. We help identify exceptional practice and why it works. Then we use this intelligence to spread this practice.

Service design

We create, design and test effective services

We can help you use design to develop innovative service and business models that improve outcomes and thrive financially.

Policy and commissioning

We help government use design processes to develop policy and commissioning

We run processes that co-design policy and commissioning with communities and stakeholders in complex systems. We can support you to work with existing evidence, identify opportunities, test assumptions through prototyping, evaluate innovation and build your team’s co-design capability.

Systems innovation

We facilitate systems change and place-based initiatives

Today’s social challenges are too complex for a single policy or service to fix. We facilitate systems change and place-based initiatives that catalyse diverse stakeholder to take action on significant system levers.

Funding innovation

We design and facilitate funding programs for innovation, value and impact

Innovation funds are scarce and must be spent wisely to change lives. We can help you manage the risk of your investment and accelerate the development of innovations to have the greatest impact.

Building skills for innovation

We build the conditions and capabilities for innovation

Innovation is in demand, but it takes specialist skills and certain conditions to make it work well. We can equip your team with tailored training through webinars, workshops and one-to-one support to make the social impact you seek a reality.

Our areas of expertise

Children and families

Many children are set up to endure chronic disadvantage in their first few years of life. We work with families, frontline workers and policy makers to design innovative policy, programs and services that give them every chance to reach their potential.

In collaboration with older adults, we help NGOs, business, government and foundations rethink their approach to issues as diverse as housing, aged care and end of life.

Positive school experiences can have an extraordinary impact on a person’s life prospects, but the mainstream system doesn’t suit everyone. We are working with education systems to explore alternative models to transform learning for children falling through the cracks.

People living with disability experience greater levels of disadvantage than others. The NDIS has the potential to transform lives – but only if it people can start to access the vital support that is missing now.

We help organisations make the critical, innovative leaps to deliver the disability services people really need and want.

Employment can offer a key pathway for people to change their circumstances and move out of disadvantage and hardship.

We help governments shape progressive policies to make work more accessible.

We also work directly with job seekers and providers in high unemployment communities, trialling locally-relevant, often groundbreaking ways to remove the barriers that stop people working.

Health systems around Australia are struggling to meet growing demand and help people maintain their health long-term. We’re helping organisations find smart, new ways to enable health and wellness, often by activating the resource of individuals, families and communities.
