Tobias has a multidisciplinary background and specialises in social research, transformative processes and human centred design.
For over 15 years he has worked as an educator, photographer, designer and social researcher. He has worked extensively with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and he has provided support to people with physical and intellectual disabilities.
Tobias lectured and facilitated learning at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) for over 9 years, in subjects such as Design Thinking, Visual Communication, Global Governance, Journalism and Media Studies. He coordinated and lectured Photomedia for several years at the Design School and lectured Global Politics at the School of International Studies.
Central to his work has been a desire to explore and develop social insights and social change with people from all backgrounds.
Tobias has a PhD in Sociology and during his doctoral research he worked with men from refugee backgrounds and re-conceptualised how we can understand belonging. He also has a MA (Research) in Media and Communication, which explored Peace Journalism and news journalists’ human rights obligations, and a Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication (honours).
