Action area: Social Innovation Workforce

We’re passionate about nurturing leaders, practitioners, communities and children with the passion and capabilities for social innovation.

What is a Social Innovation Workforce?

Our best intentioned strategies to structurally address our biggest social challenges remain hamstrung by the lack of capacity and capability at scale to do social purpose innovation.

We need people who are equipped to address our toughest socio-economic-planetary challenges, lead on-the-ground practice, and create the conditions for social purpose innovation.

We need people who are adept at bringing the diverse wisdom of our communities, businesses and institutions together so that together, we can innovate for greater outcomes for all people in Australia.

Social innovation needs to move beyond discreet teams and programs that remain vulnerable to funding cycles to become a strong and dominant capability across society.

Our vision of the future

Imagine a world where your children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren learned in school that they can change the world, and were taught the mindsets to change it.

Imagine a future where communities could access training to build the capabilities to shape their own future.

Imagine a world where social purpose innovation was a part of all professional training for social purpose professionals.

Our focus

  • Join up the interest and passion across Australia's education, training and workforce development landscapes so we can work together to build an ecosystem to mainstream social innovation capabilities in Australia.

  • Share what TACSI has learnt about social innovation publicly, globally, and in a more accessible way.

  • Support deep work in organisations and systems so that collectively, we can build our social innovation capability.

People Powered Responses

When responding to complex social challenges, we’ve seen the benefits of placing people (not systems) at the centre of the solutions we create. People Powered Responses go beyond co-design and beyond co-creation techniques.

Our commitment to First Nations First

A critical principle of the social R&D systems we want to create is that they further First Nations self-determination and First Nations knowledge systems, First Nations innovators and First Nations innovations; and that they bring the strength of First Nations knowledge to tackle our toughest challenges.

The TACSI Academy will offer courses on Allyship and foregrounding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander wisdom, and we are weaving First Nations perspectives through all our learning resources. We'll also offer free participation to Aborignal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.

We plan to identify the First Nations organisations, and innovators who want to be part of the workforce and  ecosystem, and we’re very open to partnering with First Nations organisations to shape and deliver training to FN innovators.

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians and Owners of the lands in which we work and live on across Australia. We pay our respects to Elders of the past, present and emerging. We are committed to collaboration that furthers self-determination and creates a better future for all. At TACSI, diversity and inclusion is more than a statement; equality and accessibility are guiding principles embedded in everything we do. We strongly believe that it’s the collective sum of all our communities differences, life experiences, and knowledge that enables both ourselves and our partners to come together to tackle complex social issues. That’s why we’re committed to having a diverse team made up of people with diverse skills from all backgrounds, including First Nations peoples, LGBTIQ+, mature-age people, and people with visible and non-visible disabilities, regardless of sex, sexuality or gender identity.
