Barbara Binns

Meet Barbara Binns

Where’s home for you?

My home is always where my loved ones are – since coming to Australia from the UK we have moved house nearly every two years which makes us quite nomadic which I quite like – home for now is Meadows which is towards the beautiful Mclaren Vale in SA

What were you doing before TACSI?

I was a primary school teacher for 14 years way before coming to TACSI but immediately before that worked with long term unemployed in building their self belief, trust and confidence in finding and keeping stable employment. This work started in Adelaide then took me to the NT and WA which was awesome. The change I saw in people always blew me away and in many ways pointed me towards working at TACSI.

What do you do at TACSI today?

My passion and drive is to scale the implementation of Weavers. I love the magic that occurs from powerful peer support and really valuing lived experience as a mechanism to create change in people’s lives. To see a solution grow from design, trial and finally spread is a real privilege and I always value the trust that implementation partners place in us and the model when taking Weavers into their own practice.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?

So many things need to change yet everything is possible with compassionate humanity. I would love to see a future where false power is no longer the most highly valued currency.

What do you like to do when not at work?

Time with my family, walks in Kuitpo forest, watching Netflix, catching up with friends and dancing when no-one’s looking!!
